4-H pH program gives Sitka youth a taste of ocean science

Youth in Sitka spent five months testing the water as part of an ocean acidification education program called 4-H pH. The project, funded by the NOAA Ocean Acidification Program, is part of a citizen science program called Global Learning & Observations to Benefit the Environment Program, or GLOBE.
Learn about common plant diseases and management options

All plants are susceptible to disease, which can be caused by both living organisms and environmental conditions. Todd Steinlage, a plant pathologist with the Alaska Plant Materials Center, will discuss common diseases in Alaska and management options for them in a free webinar hosted by the ²ÊÉñix¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Service.
Cooperative Extension director finalist presentations scheduled

The ²ÊÉñix¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Service will host Zoom presentations from three finalists vying to serve as the program's new director. The finalists -- Joe Sanders, Annie Steed and Jenn Wagaman -- will present talks about their vision for the program's next 10 years and its economic and geographic challenges.
Juneau camp focuses on Southeast Alaska culture, activities

Registration is open for the AK Experience Camp in Juneau, a collaboration between the ²ÊÉñix¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Service 4-H program and Goldbelt Heritage Foundation. The camp theme is Aani Yaa Du.óow "Perspectives of The Land." It will focus on cultural connections, outdoor exploration and traditional ecological knowledge.
The which, where and why of lilacs is focus of statewide webinar

Controlling bird vetch topic of statewide webinar

Bird vetch is an invasive plant that has spread widely in Alaska. It frustrates home gardeners and is a concern in natural areas, small grain fields, vegetable gardens and small fruit orchards. Gino Graziano, an invasive plants instructor with the ²ÊÉñix¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Service, will discuss ways to control bird vetch in a free statewide webinar.

Class offered to prepare trainers for StrongPeople program

Led by Leslie Shallcross, a home, health and family development agent with the ²ÊÉñix¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Service, the workshop will prepare participants to teach StrongPeople/StrongWomen exercise classes in nonprofit community settings.
